I cannot install alien

Asked by Sir Newb of Ubuntu

I tried installing Alien with the command:
sudo alien package_file.rpm

I got:
sudo: alien: command not found

Then I tried this:
sudo apt-get install alien

I got:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package alien is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package alien has no installation candidate

So where can I get this package to make it work...just curious...

Hi,

You can get the alien .deb file here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/admin/alien

or here:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/admin/alien

depending what version you use. To download it click the 'all' link under 'Download alien'.

Hope it works for you,

 Matt

I downloaded the alien.deb file. But when I am installing it, it's showing the following error: "Dependency not satisfiable". Please let me know a solution to this problem.
