8.04 log in error

Asked by Perkele

I installed (not upgraded) ubuntu 8.04 like a normal windows program.

I cannot log in. I am typing the correct username and password, it does not say incorrect. The screen turns orange, then goes back to log in screen.

Please help with this. It is also not the case it's in either, I'm typing in everything correctly.

Reboot your system, in the Grub boot menu (press escape if only a countdown appears at boot) choose the recovery entry, after loading choose the root session option, and then at the console prompt type

passwd username

where username is the name of your user.

This will change your user password.

If problems persist, it means that your problem is not authentication related.

Can you login using a failsafe gnome session (F10 at login window)?

I think your problems might be related with the following bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/218434

Several users have reported exactly the same symptoms as you have.

This bug is being worked on and has already been reported upstream.

Can you help with this problem?
