ubuntu 8.04 problems

I recently updated to ubuntu 8.04, at first all was well but now Firefox 3 beta 5 is giving me problems (bookmarks are gone, i cant go back or foward between pages and when surfing cd play is disrupted) also, to shutdown ubuntu i need to do it on the PC on/off button.

Can someone help me here?

The problem was fixed by installing Ubuntu 8.04 from cd instead of the auto update, the Firefox problem was gone after the final release was available. I am using Ubuntu 8.10 now and all works well. Thank you and sorry for not marking the problem as solved.
