Kernel 2.6.22-16-generic doesn't boot

Asked by Kisalli

I upgraded my ubuntu from 7.04 to 8.04, the Hardy Heron. After upgrader installed the packages and rebooted the system, it halted at the 'loading up' point and didn't start at all. Then I tried pressing esc at the startup and chose Kernel 2.6.22-14 instead of 2.6.22-16 and the system started successfully.

When booted from Ubuntu 8.04 CD the installer halts and when I choose 'Check CD for defects' it says "cannot boot from CD - Try BIOS upgrade"

What is this all about? Do I have to upgrade my bios to use kernel 2.6.22-16? Current version is Phoenix Awardbios 6.00PG but the Phoenix Bios upgrade support was windows-only.

About the boot-up problem, you are supposed to be using kernel 2.6.24, when you reach the GRUB menu, press "E" at both the initrd and the kernel lines and change the version number to:-
2.6.24-16
which is supposed to be found on Hardy by default.

After the changes are done, boot the system by pressing "B".

Can you help with this problem?
