dual boot windowsxp and ubuntu 8.04-ubuntu starts, loads and then i get a black screen with error message saying no connection

dual boot winxp and ubuntu
8.04 after booting ubuntu i get a black screen w/error message ---input signal out of range
any suggestions?
ubuntu logo and a loading bar show after choosing ubuntu and then when ubuntu has loaded i get the black screen w error
message-input signal out of range- this message indicates that ubuntu is not providing video because i do not have this problem in windows

Please try to press CTRL+ALT+"+" and/or CTRL+ALT+"-" to dynamically change video frequency
or press CTRL+ALT+BKSPACE to restart graphics layer.

as soon as ubuntu8.04 starts installing i got an error that either move ur pc to cooler place or burn ur cd at slower rate, i tried again with a new cd burned with 8X speed still the same problem exist. please help........
