Can't add trash applet to panels.

Asked by Michael James

I try to add the trash icon to my panel (I deleted it for AWN) but it doesn't show up when I drag it to the panel. How do I get this to work?

Have you tried right clicking on an empty zone of the panel, choosing "Add to panel", and from the list selecting the trash applet?

I have and nothing works. Is there a file I can edit to add it in, or is there a place in the configuration registry I can edit?

Could you please provide me more information:

1) Can you create a launcher in your desktop (right click on the desktop, choose create launcher, then on the following window choose type: location, name: trash-test, location: trash:///). Does clicking on that launcher open the trash? If so, can you move it to the panel by dragging the launcher from the desktop to the panel?

2) Can you add other applets to the panel? Is the trash applet the only one that does not work?

I have this same issue. Workaround 1 does work. I can add other applets to panel.

I managed to fix this by myself actually when I was messing with gconf. What I did was move the folder ~/.gconf/apps/panel/default_setup/applets/trashapplet/ to ~/.gconf/apps/panel/applets/.
I then loged out then in and Problem solved!
