Logging In controls are not centered but disappear off the bottom RHS of the screen

Asked by MHS

On system start up the logging in controls (user name and password) are not centered but disappear off the bottom right hand side of the screen. I can still see the prompts, but not what I type. The command line at the foot of the screen (which I assume is still there) is not visible at all. I should mention that:

I have just upgraded to Hardy Heron, there was no problem with GG.
The start up time line and logo that appear before logging in are centered correctly.
If I type in my user name and password blind the system starts up OK and the screen then appears normally.

This is not an answer, but here's a work-around:
From the System | Administration menu select 'Login Window'. On the 'Local' tab, change the theme to 'Circles' by checking the box to the left.

The 'Circle' theme has a similar problem but, at least on my system, about half of the login prompt is visible in the lower right corner.

The help for the 'Login Window' dialog has information on creating your own custom theme, but I'm fairly new to Linux and not feeling expert enough to try that.

Can you help with this problem?
