Connecting XP to Ubuntu with crossover cable

Asked by Iago

I want to transfer a whole bunch of files, and don't want to ferry my flash drive back and forth 800 times, or make 300 DVDs (although it would back up my hard drive nicely!) so I have a crossover cable which supports a decently fast transfer rate. Ubuntu recognizes the computer, and I believe it even recognizes some of the windows networks on the computer, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to actually see any files on the shared folders. Is there any way I can use the connector cable from Ubuntu to XP?
Do I have to buy a USB comp-to-comp cable?

did you do
sudo apt-get install ntfs-3g
?
This will work to get the goods into Ubuntu from XP, but not the other way.
Not too clear on what you wish to accomplish...

Got it to work by creating a windows network from the first one and connecting through that, I am surprised. Transfer rate is only 150 kb/s though.

May be you must tweak the windows ip setting... http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp or check your nics working speed setting...
