Ubuntu needs an archive of old deb packages

Asked by Rolf Leggewie

It would be nice if Ubuntu had an equivalent of http://snapshot.debian.net where old debs from debian are stored. This would be very interesting for example when trying to nail down regressions.

.deb packages are stored in Launchpad. It is not trivial to find them, though.

Here are steps to find them:
1) Visit source package page (e.g. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin)
2) Click on the link pointing to the version you want
3) Click on the architecture you are interested in in Builds
4) On the left, you will see "Resulting binaries" panel

All deb packages ever released by ubuntu can be accessed by replacing the variables at the appropriate places in the following URL template.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/$ubuntu-release/$arch/$package-name/$package-version
