desktop & laptop crashing frequently since upgrade to hardy both xubuntu & ubuntu

I have a desktop computer that i dual boot with xubuntu/windows, and an old laptop with ubuntu...since i upgraded to 8.04, both have frequently crashed...actually, this is the third time i've tried to type this, because the computer has crashed while typing. the last time i got a message "The panel concountered a problem while loading 'OAF IID: Gnome_MixerApplet' Do you want to delete applet from your configuration?" --i am trying this...can this be what is causing the problem? or do you have any idea what is?

hi, I am currently having the same problem like your, but mine is 'OAF IID: Glipper'. I had 8 lockups in 5 hours yesterday night. However, I think the problem is far greater than just the applet thing. You might want to take a look at the bug below:
