update video driver

Asked by aalr1986

k, I recently installed Ubuntu Hardy Heron, and I'm having a problem with my drivers.

Desktop effects work great, the computer is fast, sound drivers are good, and everything's great.

BUT

The biggest screen resolution I can get is 800x600, and I usually have 1280x800 which is what my monitor and video card support. That's the resolution I had with Gutsy.

What is wrong'?!?!

Hello

Try running displayconfig-gtk as root and modifying the resolution

(to run the program as root Press Alt +f2 then type gksu xterm and then type in the terminal displayconfig-gtk)

If you have a nvdia card then:

Enable universe repos first

Refer:

http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources

then type in a terminal:

sudo apt-get install envyng-gtk
sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings
envyng -g

Then follow onscreen instructions, reboot and then run

sudo nvidia-settings

to fix screen resolution

Regards

Bhavani Shankar.
