how do i detect printing ink levels?

Asked by kureyamu

how do i detect printing ink levels on Ubuntu 8.04 , please?

my Epson D92 printer has 4 cartridges: black, yellow, magenta, cyan. Some of these cartridges are nearly full, some nearly empty.

when my printer stops because a cartridge has no ink, i do not know which cartridge to change.

it is not possible to see if a cartridge is full or empty by taking it out of the printer and looking at it.

is there an application or code to detect ink levels?

thank you.

Hello

Yes there is a tool/application called mtink which enables you to check your ink levels inn epson printer

to install mtink you have to need to enable universe repositories

Refer this link to do the same:

http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources

after getting all the required repositories enabled

Type the following command in a terminal (applications -> accessories -> terminal)

sudo apt-get install mtink

then to run type:

gksudo mtink

On a side note, I don't know if there are better programs out there, but for now, this'll do I think...

OK as an alternative try installing escputil

sudo apt-get install escputil

and run the following command to detect ink levels

sudo escputil -i -u -r /dev/usblp0

Bhavani

That was good advice, many warm thanks!

Actually I downloaded through Synaptic Package Manager, and although I was printing at the time I requested ink level monitoring in a terminal, it gave an immediate answer. Spot on.

If the other utilities such as head alignment and head cleaning also work with it, then I shall delete FOREVER Microsoft XP and stick to Linux.

Thanks again & best wishes
