Installing xubuntu 8.04 issue
I am very happily running Xubuntu 7.10 on my IBM X40 Thinkpad for a while now without any big problems.
Yesterday I saw that Xubuntu 8.04 was available, so naturally I checked out how to install this new version.
After reading the instructions I went to the 'update manager' and pressed that 'Install Xubuntu 8.04' button. However, it gave me (after first downloading some files) the following error;
- Failed to fetch http://
web/binary-
- Failed to fetch http://
entry web/binary-
- Failed to fetch http://
entry web/binary-
So I did some searching on the internet, and somewhere on launchpad (I think) it was suggested to change the etc/apt/
So I did that, but it didn't do any good. Now it gives me the following error (even after I placed the backup sources.list file I made before editing the one in the etc/apt directory!) ;
Could not initialize the package information
A unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Opening /etc/apt/
not be read.'
So I (=newby) would kindly ask the experts here to help me on this! I guess I need some help with fixing the sources.list file and then some help with actually being able to install the new Xubuntu 8.04...
Thanks in advance!
