how to install creative x-fi sound card drivers in ubuntu 8.04

new to ubuntu. I have a creative x-fi extreme gamer sound card on my computer. I am trying out unbuntu 8.04. Need to know how to install sound card driver on ubuntu. Steps to do it. I tried to install it with terminal, but with no luck.

Unfortunately, Creative did a really poor job with linux drivers for the x-fi series.
