Router configured at windows. Migrating to Ubuntu!
Firstly, here's the machine specs:
-Mobo: Abit KV7;
...and I guess that's enough :P
Now, the situation:
I got a DSL-502G Router/Modem. I'm using it as a router and connecting one of the PC's using USB and the other using Ethernet. I want to install Ubuntu at the one with the USB. I was told to buy a Switch so I can have both using Ethernet (since Ubuntu has trouble detecting and installing USB ADSL Routers). The router was configured using windows (at 10.1.1.3: the routers' address for configuration).
I disconnected the other PC (the one previously using Eth) and connected this PC (the one previouly using USB) with Ethernet. But when I start Ubuntu (live cd), the light "eth" at the router just won't turn on...
I'm wondering why this happens if the modem is configured as router and its configuration stays at the modem (and not at windows). Maybe a problem because it was configured at Windows XP?
I go to the Network dialog at Ubuntu and I see the ADSL installed, but it just doesn't work, with or without USB.
-Question(2): Is it possible to use the router at the same time for two machines (switch), one using Windows XP and the other using Ubuntu?
-Question(3): Do I have to reconfigure the router inside Ubuntu to make it work? How?
---
It should have worked with the Ethernet. The fact that it didn't really confused me!
Thanks!
