No Video with youtube for hardy heron

Asked by Mattro2.0

New to Ubuntu/Linux. Sound plays for youtube but not video. Here's a list of thing's I've tried:

*removed gnash, reinstalled flash
*added ubuntu restricted package
*adjustment in terminal:
           sudo apt-get install alsa-oss

sudo kate /etc/firefox/firefoxrc (this part did not work)

            FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"

*reinstalled flash from synaptics
*I do have ndiswrapper
* it should be noted that a "play" symbol shows over video & scrolling items

there are other things I may have done, but I didn't take notes when I started tinkering around. If anyone has any follow up questions, I'll likely remember other things I've done.

thx

Have you attempted to install Flash from the Adobe website?

Yes and no. There are 3 options (tar.gz, rpm & YUM) and I think I played with all of them. I'm not familiar enough with Linux (yet) to know what those really mean. I used them earlier on and made new adjustments later.

Alright, I'll direct you through the process.

First, you'll want to download the .tar.gz file. Save this to your Desktop.
Now extract the files/folder inside the file you downloaded, by dragging them to your desktop. Now open the folder and find the file that ends with .pl. Open it up, and choose to run in Terminal. You will now be guided through the process, and it should be finished in a couple seconds.

I was able to do that installation without any problems. I tried youtube again, the same problem exists. Any other suggestions?

Solved my problem. I reinstalled swfdec through the synaptics package manager. Previously, only the mozilla version was installed. This time I reinstalled the mozilla version as well as added the regular version. It is possbile that the mozilla version does not apply to mozilla 3 beta 5. Either way, I have youtube, etc.

Hope this can be helpful for someone else.
