smtp is not working for Yahoo

Asked by P2P

Hi
I'm a brand new user on Ubuntu (downloaded Hardy Heron yesterday) and am trying to get my email to work. I'm trying out Kontact for now but get the message listed below when I try to send mail to Yahoo using SMTP. The settings (smtp server, encryption & port etc) is exactly as Yahoo recommends. Furthermore, seeing as I'm new and don't yet have a clear preference I tried Claw mail as well as Evolution. On all 3 of these packages the POP3 is working but the SMTP is failing. Any suggestions on what I can try to get it sorted?

Sending failed:
Connection to host smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk is broken.
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used:
Yahoo.co.uk

Hmmm... This may be flamebait for the KDE Krowd, but Thunderbird is much easier to deal with when using Yahoo or Gmail.
Have you considered Thunderbird as your email client?

I've given up on yahoo now. I've switched to evolution and also signed up for a Gmail account which worked straight away. I can only guess that it was something going wrong with Yahoo.
