How to Install

Asked by ziktalon

Ok, i'm a linux newbie. I have given up on installing linux and dual booting it with my vista machine using EasyBCD. However, i can't even get it to work when i choose the install within windows option from the live cd. it will install in windows just fine, i get to the restart option and restart the computer. when the option comes up, i boot into linux, but i keep getting a grub error #15.
So, Here is my setup/problem.
I have a 5 harddrives. 2 are in a raid 0 configuration (set by hardware aka mobo) and they have my vista install on them. I would like to install linux onto a seperate hard drive. How do i do this? where does grub get loaded onto? when the option for selecting hard drives come up, my raid drive shows up as 2 seperate harddrives.

You have a spare HDD, why not just use GRUB and make it simple? Do your install! Wubi is for little girls, use the ISO!
Good practices dictate the following:
Seperate Partition for / (I like 10GB, personally) plent of space for upgrade, etc
1 GB swap partition
/home partitition (think about what you want to do and have space for your files) more is better if you can spare it.
ext3 is fine, roll with it.

Don't freak out...
Use google and other references often...

Have a lot of fun! (Hope Novell didn't copyright that one)

Enjoy your new freedom.
I hope you can get past BG and his leg-breakers!
