Grub help Erros

Asked by Adrian1327

I am new to Linux and Ubuntu. I recently D/L Ubuntu and installed it fairly easy. I am not trying to dual boot and wanted to run Ubuntu as the only /primary OS. When I restart my box I see Grub Error 5 stage 1.5 on my screen. Does anyone know what is going on? Here are my box specs:

ATHLON 64 X2 4200+ 2x512KB CACHE 939-PIN DC

2 PDP 512MB DDR PC3200 SODIMM AW65
2FUJITSU 80GB 5400RPM SATA NCQ
1 FPC CABLE 1 TO 2 SATA HDD CABLE

1 7700 NVIDIA G71 7900 GTX WITH 256MB

I found that error five means:

"5 : 'Disk geometry error'

This error is returned when a read is attempted at a linear block address beyond the end of the BIOS translated area. This generally happens if your disk is larger than the BIOS can handle (512MB for (E)IDE disks on older machines or larger than 8GB in general)." -http://www.uruk.org/orig-grub/errors.html

I would recommend re-installing Ubuntu, or GRUB. Also, how old is your BIOS and its firmware?

Can you help with this problem?
