hardy upgrade fail initramfs

Asked by ichapman@videotron.ca

I updated gutsy to all the latest stuff. Then upgraded to Hardy. I'm dead in the water. I get a DOS white on black screen.
Busy Box v1.13(Debin 1:1.2.5ubuntu12) built in shell (ash)
(initramfs) and I can give commands like ls, mkdir etc.

What can I do to login to the desktop? Regards Ian.

Do you have SATA disk drives? I could not do anything at all with the 8.04 live CD. I couldn't run from it, install it, or even check it. There is a discussion in the forum which says the problem can be overcome by changing the SATA setting in the BIOS from AHCI or IDE to RAID. You have to change it back to run Windows. I can now run the live CD, although I am not happy making a change whose effect on my machine I don't understand.

Can you help with this problem?
