Installation freezes at fresh install with hardy desktop/alternate CD

Asked by CarloSalvatore

Greetings... Installation freezes at fresh install with hardy desktop/alternate CD

First of all the hardware:
MB AK77-400N (VIA KT400N NB & VIA 8235 SB)
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (~1.67Hz)
RAM DDR 1 GB
AGP 8x nVidia GeForce MX 4000 128MB
HD ATAPI IDE 80 GB MASTER (hda1=swap 4GB + hda2=File System 76 GB)
HD ATAPI IDE 120 GB SLAVE (hdb1=ntfs-3g 100GB + hdb2=ext3 20 GB)
DVD-RAM LG

I've tried a fresh Hardy installation with both desktop and alternate CD. The results are the same, it always get frozen, I'd leaved my pc working all night just in case it was slow, but never go through 22%~24% (Desktop CD) or 6% (Alternate CD). The installation process begins ok, I can set the partitions options, and when the system begins to install, it freezes, I can't even turn the num lock led on and off.

I'm capable of installing hardy, but only by installing gutsy and then doing the upgrade, from the internet or from the alternate CD.

I'd read a lot of stuff about, but nothing seems to work. I've tried to disable ACPI, but it seems it can't be done with my BIOS/Motherboard, also I'd tried to disable PnP aware OS, but this option is not even there.

This has become a personal challenge, so I hope you guys can help me, 'cause I'm stocked...

Greetings from Mexico City...
