Hi,

Can you provide some extra information?
Which version are you installing? Have you checked the cd?
You can try the alternate cd.

Hi Lazo,

Thanks for your response. I am using Ubuntu6.10 desktop version.

Yes, I checked the CD and it is good. I get an error saying

------------------------------- error msg
"No Matching device section for instance (BusID PCI: 0.2.1) found.
(EE)1810(0) No Video BIOS mode for chosen depth
(EE)sreen(s) found, but none have usable configuration.
Fatal Server error.
No screen found.
using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
----------------------------------
I the notebook i purchased has this display:
>15.4 Inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WXGA+ for Inspiron6400/E1505

Not sure if XServer has problem running on this display hence Ubuntu
stops here. At this point Ubuntu says Xserver is stopped and every thing
stops here.

Please let me know if you have any ideas to fix this issue.

Thanks a lot.

Try installing ubuntu with the alternate cd. With this cd you can install ubuntu in text mode. Then you should not have any problems with X while installing.

You can download the alternate cd (i386)here: http://mirror.letsopen.com/os/ubuntu-ISO/edgy/ubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386.iso

I successfully installed Kubuntu 6.06 on my Dell E1505, then upgraded to 6.10; I used the desktop CD. I also have the same screen as you, and a ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 card. bcm43xx seems to be a wireless driver, which shouldn't halt installation.

Can you help with this problem?
