problem with screen resolution in hardy

Asked by zm1

After upgrading the system from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04, I have got a problem with the screen resolution. The resolution is set to 800x600 but my monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 713BM) is able to work with 1280x1024 at 60 Hz. In spite of that I cannot change it to this value. My graphics card is NVIDIA XFXforce.

Try running displayconfig-gtk as root.

That helps until the next restart of the PC only. If after the restart a user without administrative privileges logs-in there is no problem with the resolution. But if a user with administrative rights does, the problem re-appears.

Finally all problems with the resolution have disappeared after I went to System->Screen resolution and set the desired values.
