IE Favorites

Asked by Will Shank on 2008-04-27

I am a first-time Ubuntu user and have installed Hardy on to my Windows machine in a separate partition with a dual boot. It installed smoothly and so far everything works perfectly and it looks very nice. I would like to ask if there is somewhere I can go on-line to read a step-by-step procedure for transferring my IE Favorites to the Firefox browser that was included in the Hardy package. I need to do this twice as I have set up two user profiles in Hardy.

Hello will shank:

When you install Firefox,(If you have windows install firefox for windows) it will ask you do you want to import settings from Internet Explorer, answer Yes.

If you just want to import your bookmarks/favourites from the Firefox that you use with Windows into the Firefox that you use with Ubuntu then you can do this...

With your Windows Firefox click on Bookmarks>Organise (or) Manage Bookmarks...>File>Export...

Then export them onto a floppy disk or a USB stick. They are exported as an html file. You could even email it to yourself as an attachment.

Then start up Ubuntu and with Firefox click on Bookmarks>Organise(or) Manage Bookmarks...>File>Import...

and that will import the favourites and your job should be done..
