Upgrade Ubuntu

Asked by NEWTOLINUX

Hi Folks

I am new to Linux, and recently installed Ubuntu 6 64bit edition. However, I would like to upgrade to the latest version in a stepwise fashion i.e. 6 to 7 to 8. What I would like to know is whether it is possible to upgrade without installing the old version is a similar fashion you can with windows. Is it possible? If so, can someone take me through the process, please?

I really dont understand what you mean with Ubuntu 6, but if that means you have Gutsy Gibbon, you can get Hardy Heron by:

1.-System
2.-Administration
3.-Upgrade Manager
3.-Click on top where it says "Upgrade to Hardy Heron" or something like that.
4.-You are done, just need to wait. Maybe you will need to follow onscreen instructions.

If you have a version other than Gutsy, I think you cannot do this.

For more information, please see the Ubuntu wiki and documentation.
