no sound from laptop!! pls i dont want XP!!

i hav a lenovo 3000 n200 and i cant get any sound in ubuntu 8.04!! it cant be a hardware prob as i used to hav sound in windows xp..

i hav tried nearly everything and nothing seems to make it work!! everything is unmuted in alsa mixer but still no sound! i hav an intel hda chip or someting

this is soo annoying and i think i migh hav to return to windows XP!! :(

This may sound stupid, but go to in Gnome, go to <System> <Preferences> <Sound> and check your settings. Also, your laptop may have a keyboard function to manipulate your sound. Try that. I have a Gateway with keyboard control to mute, increase and decrease sound. Those keys worked in microshafts windows xp and they also work in Ubuntu Linux the same way.

If you still need help, you can check with Emperor Computers and Lenovo. There may be others, but both of those companies work with lenovo (IBM) computers and Linux. Now that I am thinking of it, I have seen some Linux information provided by IBM themselves. I have used them but can't give you a link because I can't remember.

I have the same problem. I have had it with the previous version of Ubuntu, but it was solved by following the topics writen about it. There is nothing about this version, though. I tryied everything too, and nothing seems to work. Please, advice! thanks a lot!

i got my sound to work a few weeks ago but remeber exactly what i did

i think i added an extra line into some folder and saved and it worked

and i also had to unmute the alsamixer stuff

sorry for not being able to explain thoroughly i am a noob as well
