Got new Canon LIDE120 scanner and won't recognize

Asked by Wee Bear

Get only scanner not found when trying to scan.

When using sudo sane-find-scanner I get
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x190e [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:003

When trying sudo simple-scan I get now scanner found

When I use sudo scanimage -L I get
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

even after this sudo sane-find-scanner still finds it

I am using an Acer laptop running Ubuntu 14.04, LTS 32bit

Before trying all this I ran update and upgrade.
I also tried following instructions found on http://www.freecolormanagement.com/sane/libusb.html but had to create hotplug directory, nor did usb.usermap did not exist so created it. Also /etc/group did not have the group <scanner>

I also checked in sane.d and the file genesys.conf lists the Cannon LIDE120 as supported.

Anyway if there is any help please advise, thanks

Basically check the Canon website for drivers

That page goes in a loop and sometimes back to Canon official site which says there is no driver for Linux

Thanks, This question/thread solved my problem
284697 any support for GL848 based canon LiDE 120 scanner from sane-backend?
Used second half as follows but simply -upgrade and not dist-upgrade:
"bingo, it works and the other way with sane and all its libraries installed did the following

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git

#then run
sudo apt-get update

#then run
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

and yes, it works as well!"
Thanks actionparsnip
