broadcom not working after 8.04 upgrade

Asked by marc

my wireless network card "Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)" "disappeared" after the upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy.

I cannot find that in "Driver Hardware" former "restricted device" and if I use some wifi manager it says "can't find any wireless network interface".

have I to reinstall manually or what?

Thanks.

Marco

HP Pavilion dv5000 AMD 64 Hardy Heron 386. Marco, Me too am in trouble with wifi. Broadcom disappeared to me too, but the restricted icon showed me that I could enable Broadcom B43, along with my ATI driver. Being connected to internet by wire, I was asked to install the firmware. From then on, sometimes the wifi card works, sometimes it gets disabled I have installed wicd, as the network manager, which works far better then the network manager supplied by Ubuntu.

On Gutsy, the card has worked six months without one only problem.
Hope someone helps us out ...

Hi ,

I do had the same problem.
My wifi was working fine Ubuntu 7.10 with restricted driver. In Hardy the restricted driver for Wireless card is not listed at all.

So using Package manager install ndisgtk.

after that you will find System - Administration - Windows Wireless Driver.

Download corresponding windows driver and install using this interface.

Once you restart the system wifi will start working.

Hi jrojo

I tryed to install with ndiswrapper some driver, maybe I miss something or that I'm not smart enough..

For wireless card "Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)" what windows driver would you choose?

It's been a lot of time that I look for that but without result, I would appreciate a lot some link....

Thanks in advance.
