accessing windows xp files and folders

Is it possible to have both Ubuntu and Xp Pro installed on the same machine and access folders like music and pics "in windows xp" using Ubuntu?

You actually haven't to do nearly anything.
When you're installing ubuntu without formatting your windows-drives (you install it with the windows installer wubi or make a new partition or take a new harddrive) you will find the windows-drives as they are in the places-menu of ubuntu (eventually even right on the desktop).

I'd suggest you first try to boot with the live-cd (download the ubuntu iso file from ubuntu.com burn it on a cd and restart your pc with the cd in the drive) then select try the live-system (or similar) and you first can try the look and feel of ubuntu and test your windows-drive access without changing your computers configuration.
