Installing Ubuntu 8.04 beta in Microsoft Virtual PC on Vista

Asked by Richardgnz

I am trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 beta in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 on Vista.
The CD loads, I select English and then select install. I then get the following message:

"An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now."

I have tried both the desktop and alternative i386 images.

fyi. My machine is a Dell Dimension 5150 - Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor

I have seen this exact message posted on other forums so it's not just me ...

Any ideas?

I will try the final realease tomorrow which hopefully fixes this problem....???

Have you tried the alternate CD iso? Maybe that would help.
Also, you could consider using VirtualBox instead of Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 as a desktop virtualization solution, as it seems to run guest linux distros very well and is available as a host both in windows (from virtualbox's homepage) and Ubuntu (official repositories)

And though it's proprietary, VMWare works with Ubuntu virtual machines perfectly.

Thanks for the info! I have decided to just run Ubuntu natively instead - downloading 8.04 now!
