Want to install Ubuntu / boot Live Ubuntu from hard disk

Asked by Noble P Abraham

I have a laptop without CD/DVD drive. I have two hard drive partitions with 10GB in the primary (Windows XP installed) and 20GB in the rest partition (free, but formatted as FAT32 D:\)

I want to place the Ubuntu Live CD in a directory in drive C:\ (say, C:\U7) and want to boot from it, either to use it as a live system or to install it to my original D:\ drive (will format it to ext2 or ext3 upon install).

I DO NOT want to use external CD/DVD or USB to boot/install Ubuntu.

Is there a way out?

I'm pretty sure the only way to do that is to run a virtual machine of some sort in Windows and install from that.VMware Player is the only one I'm familiar with. It may take a bit of setting up but it will work. You can get the freeware version here http://www.vmware.com/products/player/overview.html

Sorry.
