White screen at login- Hardy installation

Asked by ladysun1

I installed the current ATI driver and got through the install OK but I do not think I finished the configuration of the install because now when I
restart Ubuntu I get a white screen after I log in. I used Wubi for my install of Ubuntu and thought I should update the drivers
after I got a message instructing me to use the "restricted drivers". The "restricted drivers" did not work and I got a black screen so
I re-installed Ubuntu and tried the drivers from the ATI site instead. I can get into the "Fail Safe" mode and try to correct the install if
you could tell me what code to use. Thanks!

Hi! I've just solved our hitch by using that ( http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Hardy_Installation_Guide ) installation guide! Now, the "grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf" derives

Driver "kbd"
Driver "mouse"
Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
Driver "fglrx"

P.S.: I used Manual method following each step but without removing mesa drivers.
Files "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-restricted" and "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local" were absolutely blank so I put "# blacklist fglrx" into each of them. And won't forget about configurationat the end!

Can you help with this problem?
