16.04 LTS on re-boot, after install, locks up.

I installed 16.04 LTS on a virgin 1T ssd and it said to remove DVD and reboot. The reboot looked OK until I tried to use it. It was totally locked-up. I reformatted my ssd and tried again with the same results. I reformatted again and installed 14.04.3 desktop AMD64 and it works fine. What gives?
