What happens when you put the disk in another computer, if one is available?

Arochester: It says CD-R
I originally put these files on the CD to transfer them to a new computer. They are photo files.

What color is the CD case?

Of course I'm just joking. I would try lsblk. Could you post the results from that?
When you burned the disk did you check that it was done successfully? Meaning: are you sure the data is actually on the disk?

If you have the CD inserted into the computer, you should see an additional icon on the left hand side of the file explorer window.
Similar to this http://bernaerts.dyndns.org/images/technoblog/oneplus/oneplustwo-nautilus-cdrom.jpg

Do you have such CD icon?

Anthony: I played the CD on another computer and was able to see my graphic files.

Manfred: I dont see ANY icon on the desktop and dont know where to find it. I looked in Removable Storage and the boxes are checked. What do you mean File Explorer? I have looked in every part of the File System and nothing shows up.

Just to rule out a defective CD/DVD drive or missing driver software:
Can you insert some other CD or DVD in your drive, and does it work with that other one?

What is the output of the command
dmesg | grep -i cd

On my 14.04, you would click on Files, at top left, (Unity Launcher) of Desktop. See site below.

http://www.howtogeek.com/188096/how-to-resize-the-unity-launcher-icons-in-ubuntu-14.04/

That will bring up the image that Manfred referred to in #7.

I dont have the Unity launcher on the left side of my desktop. Maybe I dont have the Unity desktop. It is Xubuntu. There is a File System icon on the desktop but I have looked in there and found nothing under CDROM.

I checked my Xubuntu, but it is 12.04. To find if CD/DVD is showing, go to the top left corner icon, then Settings, then to Disk Utillity. If there is not Disk Utillity showing, then you must install it from Software Center. Again this is 12.04, there may be differences.

Please give output of the terminal command Manfred asked for. If you haven't used the terminal, tell us, we will help.

Also the terminal command " lsblk" from #6. Please disreguard my last sentence, in #12.

MICHAEL: I dont have the Unity launcher on my desktop. I have 14.04 Trusty and there is no such thing as Disk Utility. I will go to the software center as recommended.

Here is the output from the terminal for lsblk:
