Please Help, cant connect to internet

 hi, I am new to ubuntu and not very computor sharp, I was hoping someone can give me step by step instructions on how I can connect to the internet. Right now I am connected to internet on my desktop pc through a cable modem and a ethernet cord. I am trying to connect my laptop that has only the ubuntu os installed on it by unplugging pc ethrnet and plugging into laptop ethrnet port. I know there are some commands that I need to type in certain windows that are asking for networking info, but I dont know where they are and what to type info into. Thankful for any direction somebody is willing to give me on this question. I know alot of pateince is required for someone who knows very little except for basic skills as I am.

Hi drmanz - that's a pretty broad question outside of the realm of what could easily be answered here in one step.

Here is a link to a page which gives instructions on how to set up an internet connection in Ubuntu. Please read through this info and then come back and state what you have tried if you still can't get connected.

We will also need more information about your laptop, the type of network adapter you have as well as your internet connection information.
