DVD Booting Problem

I recently purchased a Ubantu 7.10 on a DVD.

Problem is I cannot get my computer to boot from the Ubuntu disk, what happens on booting is that I get the first screens where one selects booting from the DVD, then I get a screen where it says Ubuntu and there is a rectangular box with a orange block moving from left to right for awhile, then the block stop moving and the computer is frozen and has to be rebooted. This occurs when I try to boot in either the Ubuntu regular mode or safe mode.

The disk check option has been run, it works OK and indicates that the disk is good.

The computer I am using works with no problems on Windows Vista
It is as follows.

emachine model T5088
Pentium 4
3.20 GHz
1024 DDR2 memory
Video card Diamond model #9250

I really would like to try Ubuntu and would appreciate any suggestions anyone may have to get it to boot on my computer.

you can try install in text mode on the boot menu firs appears.

Hello. You might try to "Check Disc for defects", when you boot from it.

My plan was to install it in regular mode on the hard drive if I can get it to boot on my computer. I assume it will not work installed on the hard drive in regular mode if it will not boot from the DVD. Somewhere I have read that Ubantu will not work on all computers due to some compatibility issues with the motherboard is this true?

I have run the "Check Disk for defects" option when I booted from the Ubuntu disk. The test said that the disk is OK.

Any further assistance would be appreciated.

Text mode installation isn't irregular . sometimes the live cd has problems with some graphic cards which can be solved with installing correct driver after installation.
also it's possible that Ubuntu won't run properly on your system without some hard hacking on the OS.

Your reply mentioning the graphic card caused me to do the following.

Change the graphic card to one I have made by BFG Tech. The result was that it would still not boot from the DVD but the screen was different when it froze up, this time there were dots on the screen.

So next I removed the BFG Tech. graphic card and rebooted using the shared memory built in graphics card in the motherboard. Then the computer booted from the DVD with no problem.

My plan now is to install Ubuntu on the hard disk, install the proper Diamond drivers and then reinstall the Diamond graphic card.
