The easiest route to go on this would be to request a backport of the feisty package of pine to edgy.

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/pine

The instructions here should walk you through how to request a backport.

http://backports.ubuntuforums.org/wiki/index.php/Requesting_A_Backport

I have filed the inital backport request here:

https://launchpad.net/products/edgy-backports/+bug/77773

Ubuntu probably does not have PINE. But, it has ALPINE which is improved version of PINE. Try using it. It is in the Ubuntu repositories.
sudo apt-get install alpine
