Is there a server distro of ubuntu

Asked by Vijay

Hi all,

I am looking for if there is a distro of ubuntu which is like redhat or fedora core which I am familier with so far, like a complete server installation possible from their CD's. Usually there at least 4 or more CD's in redhad or fedora core recently where you install various packages required for work. There are all the server programs as well in them thru which I can experiment stuff on my machine for R & D. I am wondering if there is a distro of ubuntu like that. Coz the CD's I obtained from ubuntu for free have a very minimal set of programs that can be installed. I understand that inorder to get most of the other packages, we have to use synaptic or apt-get as required. Please give me some idea of how to go about things in ubuntu.

Thanks and Regards,
-vijay

There is a server CD, yes. You can download and burn the ISO image. Go to http://ubuntu.com/ and follow the download link under "server". It's only one CD, so unlike Fedora or Redhat you still have to get the extra software from online repositories. The full repository is around 30GB which wouldn't fit on a CD or even DVD.
