How do I change the CPU clock frequency and how do I verify the change?

Asked by Siva

Hi, How do I change the CPU clock frequency?
The mostly advised command is "sudo cpufreq-selector -f 1.2e9" is it enough to set the CPU frequency? If yes, after changing the clock how do I verify that?

Thanks,
Siva

For GNOME, there exists a handy applet:

1) Right-Click on upper or lower panel
2) Select "Add to panel"
3) Select applet "Monitor CPU Frequencies"

Please note, however, I'm not using a CPU with variable frequencies. This might not work.

FYI:
The current frequency of your CPU is reflected in the file ``/proc/cpuinfo''. The command ``$ cat /proc/cpuinfo'' will print the contents of that file.

Can you help with this problem?
