Install Open Office 2.4

I have downloaded Open Office 2.4 and the package" OOo_2.4.0_LinuxIntel_install_wJRE_en_US.tar.gz" is in my tmp folder. How do I extract and install the package? Will it overwrite Open Office 2.3?

Because that file isn't in a special format (*.deb) that Ubuntu and Debian based systems can automatically install, you need to manually install it. However, it is currently possible to update to OpenOffice 2.4 using Ubuntu's software repositories, which is much easier.

I can't find 2.4 in the repositories but I'm not too worried because 2.4 is in Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) and that comes out in 6 days :)
