I can't boot to the Ubuntu CD?

Asked by sirManleyPowers

I am new to Linux and excited to get into it, but im having a problem...Maybe im missing something?

I have burnt the image correctly to the CD, Enabled the CD drive in the BIOS and set it as the first device in boot priority. If I put the CD in while windows is running, it brings up the window saying I can boot to it to install. (I'm doing a clean install)

However, when I try to boot to CD, it shows "Boot to CD/DVD: " waits a little while, then boots to windows. I tried hitting "Any Key" when the boot to cd message comes up, but no luck.

Do I just have a bad image somehow? I have re-burnt it to 2 CDs using 2 programs, so I dont think its the cd. plus I really dont want to have to dl it again seeing as I have DSL and it takes an hour. :(

Any help is appreciated!

Install a program that can check the md5sum e check if it is okay.

If it is, then make sure you burn it to a brand new CD-R, no RW, those don't always work.

Yep, the image was messed up. I got a new one and seems to work fine.

Thanks!

May i suggest you to install Deluge client, to download torrent files, from http://deluge-torrent.org/downloads.php and please download the Ubuntu 8.04 release candidate of Ubuntu by selecting a .torrent link from http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.04/

Thank you

Funny you mention that, thats exactly what I did. ( I figured I would get better speeds with a torrent instead)

Thanks!
