Missing file for Mediawiki/Apache2 configuration

Asked by Tommy Pollák

According to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Running_MediaWiki_on_Ubuntu the file /etc/mediawiki/apache.conf should be edited (line Alias /mediawiki /var/lib/mediawiki to be uncommented) and edit /etc/apache2/apache2.conf to include the previously edited file.

However, I can not find a file apache.conf anywhere in my downloads or installation. Where can I find it or what is the content?

Which Ubuntu release are you running?
How did you install mediawiki?
Have you seen the remark
"This section only applies if you installed MediaWiki using apt-get or aptitude, which is not recommended"
in the instructions?

Ubuntu 16.04
mediawiki 1.26.3
apt-get as far as I can remember.
Yes.
My problem is that Apache2 is running OK, /var/www/index.html is rendered OK, but /var/wiki (logical link to /var/www/mediawiki.1.26.3/ is not rendered, that is does not show anything. However http://localhost/wiki/phpcs.xml renders /var/www/mediawiki.1.26.3/phpcs.xml.

Therefore I have concluded that the problem is that Apache2 does not recognize *.php in /var/www/mediawiki.1.26.3, hence the question.

I propose that you uninstall your current mediawiki installation and re-start following the instructions to install the current version from mediawiki.org
Carefully read the warnings!

Thanks for the tip. I removed the last Mediawiki version and that showed a different picture. Eventually the link from wikimedia to the actual mediawiki-1.26.2 was wrong. After I corrected it everything works OK.

By the way, I had installed 1.26.3 through a download from the mediawiki site (and not through apt-get).
