What are the specifications of your computer? Most importantly, how much RAM is there? This page lists the system requirements to run Ubuntu:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

Briefly, 256MB is the minimum RAM to run the desktop (non-server) edition with the typical graphical installation, while 384MB is recommended. If you meet these requirements, then you can try out Ubuntu by downloading and then booting from the live CD. Using the live CD, you can make sure your hardware is recognized and try out the desktop interface without making any changes to your hard drive. If you are satisfied, you can go ahead and install Ubuntu.

Even though your AMD chip supports the 64-bit edition of Ubuntu, you will probably encounter fewer problems by running the 32-bit (Intel x86) desktop version. Of course you can always try out both! Here is the link:

Finally, keep in mind that the next version of Ubuntu, 8.04 Hardy Heron LTS, will be released next week so you may want to wait until then before downloading and trying out Ubuntu on your Fujitsu-Siemens PC.

Good luck!
