on boot colour orange on black screen words not defineable

U6.06 LTS: On boot or shutdown the mounted items are listed on screen; the characters are orange and I cannot read on the black background despite changing the screen definition; one of them has failed to mount but I cannot see which :-( how can I change the colour please?
