cannot launch "Real Player 11" after installation

Asked by czman11

I installed Real player 11 with no problem, however running it is giving me error message. The message reads "Could not launch menu item - Failed to execute child process "realplay" (No such file or directory)". Can anyone give me a solution?

after I downloaded the bin file I installed it from terminal ./RealPlayer11GOLD.bin

Installation went fine and it does work if I open it from directory. However it does not launch from the application menu. I found RealPlayer10 and I will try to install it. Maybe there is some problem problem with the 11th version of the software. Sully I went to the page you sent and tried it but it still does not launch. Thanks guys, let me try raelplayer10 and if I don't have any problems I'll just use that.

If you do it as described here you can also play things like the BBC weather forcast directly from within Furefox.

Worked a treat for me.

Hi bagleyic
I have learned about Synaptic manager so I thank you for that. Unfortunately realplayer is not in the database any more. Here is something that pops up when I try to reinstall.

Copying RealPlayer files...tar: ./realplay: Cannot open: File exists
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
cannot find either hxplay or realplay--aborting setup!

RealPlayer installation is complete.
Cleaning up installation files...
Done.

Finally got it. I guess sometime a good night sleep works the best. Thank you all for your help. Eventually I had to change the directory during re installation. I just didn't notice before.

Thank you all =)
