I try to install Ubuntu 7.10 on PC that has windowsOS but the ubuntu my sees the entire partition as one which if I do it will erase my windows OS

I have a PC with 150gb HDD and It is partitioned and I have windows XP operating system on one partition and I also have ubuntu 7.10 cd so when I reboot with the Ubuntu cd inside the drive,I will be able to use the live session but when I try to install the Ubuntu,It sees my partition as as 150GB unpartitioned what do I do to have both OS running on the same PC?

Windows has its system on one formatted partition which you can edit in the partition manager of the ubuntu installation you can select the amount of partition space you want to take away from the windows partition.
Or you could wait for hardy which has wubi which can install ubuntu in windows' filesystem
