can you paste your full menu.lst here http://
Please reply back with information and we can help you further.
You need to run gedit with a user who has more access:-
ALT+F2 (or in a terminal)
gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
It will ask for your password, then edit exactly as you did previously and save normally.

This is the original without any changes. Not sure which 0 I should change to a 2. I tried the very last at the bottom where it says : title Microsoft Windows XP Professional
root (hd0,0)
I changed it to a 2, and saved it, rebooted and still the same boot order.
Thank you for all your help, and I look forward to hearing from you.

I tried your edits, I copied and pasted them then saved. When I restart it is still the same. It boots to Ubuntu first.
I got the idea from https:/
I read it much too quickly and realize it should read as this:
http://
Please try this and let me know if it works.
