IBM Thinkpad 20. Installation problems

Asked by Terje Skytterholm

When trying to insall, I get this message:

piix4_smbus 0000:00:07.3: IBM Laptop detected; this module may corrupt your serial eeprom! Refusing to load module!

And the installation stop.
Any idea on how to workaround the problem?

Regards Terje

I believe this is a known issue related to lm_sensors on IBM thinkpads which is documented here:-

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_lm-sensors

Which version of Ubuntu are you using and which CD? There are two CDs for each release, the Desktop (live) one and the Alternate CD. If you are using the Desktop CD you might want to try the alternate one which might not exhibit this issue. You can download the ISO for the alternate CD and burn it to CD. You will find links to download the alternate ISO from the ubuntu home page http://ubuntu.com/

Can you help with this problem?
