Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition from USB brive boot

Asked by tadiv

I booted the Live CD (7.10) on my laptop and installed to a USB drive - grub and all. Without the USB drive attached, the laptop operates like normal. With the USB drive connected, GRUB starts up and when I select any OS, I get the Error 17 message...

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom

SO -- somehow when I was installing Ubuntu, the USB drive was detected as hd1, but when booting from the USB drive, it seemed to think the USB drive was hd0. In boot/grub/menu.lst, I changed all "hd0" entries to "hd1" and the original hd1 entries to hd0 and now it boots properly...
