Control hardware volume? (Lenovo r60 hardy beta)

Asked by Michael James

I have noticed that in Hardy my dedicated volume keys now work on a software level. This limits my max volume and sometimes I need to have loud speakers. ;) In Gutsy they worked on a hardware level. I do like the OSD in Hardy; so I just want to know if there is a file I can edit to change the hardware volume. I can change it but I have to boot into Vista and use my dedicated volume keys then go back into Ubuntu. I hate waiting for Vista.

Simply: Is there a file that controls hardware volume in Hardy?

I think this can be solved by running System->Preferences->Sound and selecting the appropriate mixer channel(s) in the bottom of the window. It's Master by default and switching it to PCM (or Master+PCM together by using CTRL+click) should help.
